ABU DHABI – The disappointment is genuine. No medals for the Belgian judokas at these Worlds. Moreover, 11 of the 12 judokas were eliminated in the preliminaries. Only Gabriella Willems (-70kg/JWB) came close to the podium but had to settle for fifth place. It does, however, earn her a ticket to the Paris Olympics! The big surprise is undoubtedly the early elimination of Matthias Casse (-81kg/JV). Consequently, no fifth World Championship medal in a row for our judoka. After a first penalty point in the third round, Matthias takes two more questionable penalties for grabbing his opponent's trouser leg. Early exit thus for our disappointed compatriot.
