LOUVAIN-LA-NUEVE - A few weeks after the EJU Kata tournament 'Marcel Clause', the Belgian Kata Championships took place in Louvain-la-Neuve on Saturday, April 22nd. The opportunity for new duos to compete against some established names.
In addition to the titles expected from veterans such as Yvan Barnich-Eddy Lamblot in Katame No Kata or François-Xavier Mathieu-Thierry Genotte in Ju No Kata, new duos took the stage during these Belgian championships, such as Kevin Leloux and Jonathan Loix in Nage No Kata.
The event, which brought together about twenty duos, also saw many young judokas, some under the age of 14, shine in front of various international judges. This is the case, among others, of the "Oursons d'Andenne", winners in the ENBU Judo category, and the duo composed by Elyse Navez-Mylan Masy, already winners in March at the Marcel Clause competition.
Duos from Judo Vlaanderen were also spotted on the podium, in particular the duo David Deleu and Bernard Devooght crowned themselves with gold as Belgian champions in the Kodokan Goshin Jutsu, while the duo Yanick Vandekerckhove and Patrick Minnoy took bronze in Kime no kata.
